Criolla or folk peñas, an exhibition of the most varied exponents of music native to the different provinces of the country – Zamba, Gato, Chacarera, Baguala, Chamamé, etc – alongside typical regional food and drinks – empanadas, locro, good wines – form an important part of the cultural activity of Buenos Aires.
They are for universal participation. There are no obstacles depending on age and the price of entry and food is generally reasonable.
The barrios of San Telmo, Abasto and Palermo have a high concentration of peñas.
